The great people at St. Chad's Sanctuary
Volunteers are the life blood of St Chad's Sanctuary and we couldn't function without them! Come and join our busy team and find out why people volunteer for years! There are a variety of roles available from welcoming service users at the door to sorting donated clothing, from teaching English classes to fundraising, from IT support to delivering food parcels. If you are a hardworking, problem solving team player who wants to have the rewards of serving the community, this is the place for you! Fill in this Volunteer Application Form and we will respond to you as soon as we can.
Volunteering to help with English Classes
We are currently looking for volunteers to take on the following roles:
Conversation Club Volunteer
Conversation Club is an online conversation group for students who already have a moderate level of English (Entry 2 or higher). Each week we focus on a different topic and divide into small groups facilitated by one or two volunteers to talk about that topic. We are looking for one or two people to join our current team of Conversation Club volunteers. You will need to be comfortable using Zoom and be familiar with its basic functions (including screen sharing). Conversation Club meets on Wednesdays from 11.00 - 12.30, and the volunteers often have a planning session (also via Zoom) on Mondays around midday.
Online Class Assistant/Co-tutor
We have a mixed E2/E3 level class of women with babies and small children that meets twice a week on Zoom. We are looking for someone to assist with the Friday afternoon class, which runs from 2.30 - 4.00pm. You will need to be comfortable using Zoom and be familiar with its basic functions (including screen sharing). Ideally, you will have experience of hosting a Zoom meeting and assisting participants if they have difficulties connecting, getting audio etc. If you are an experienced ESOL tutor you will have the opportunity to share in the planning and teaching of the class. Alternatively, we would consider someone to take on a class assistant role, under the guidance and direction of the class tutor.
Please note we do not currently have any vacancies for people to help with face to face classes.
We will be closed from Monday 25th - Friday 29th October.
